Poetryby Colleen Smith
Mama, Please
the waves
crest in my head
spilling out of my ears
as i sleep.
broken light through leaves
flapping pages in the wind
please don't wake me
away from that
and into this sorrow
mama
sometimes
i just can't
anymore
the damage
the danger
of each day
sometimes
i just can't
please
don't wake me
leave me with Neruda
and the wide bright sky
The City
i want that pulsing
white hot
kinetic
frenzied
pounding feet on concrete
too busy to notice
anyone but
you, you, you
all i want is you
dirty, gritty, glorious
city you
swallow me whole
cover every inch
of my tired, ready body
feed me
with your racing rhythm
dance me, rock me
bring me to my knees
rattle me through the hollow of my bones
shake me so hard
i can barely stand
and then send me
back home
until i'm ready
again
